But there are many problems which are faced by the teacher’s now days which come into focus on the occasion of Teacher’s Day when a citizen plea before the Supreme Court of India and highlighted the “Systematic Exploitation of Teachers” in the private institutions by the plea individual requests the CJI of India to take a Suo motu cognizance as this is not a employment issue is the wrong doing done by the private institution.

Background

A concerned citizen named Rana Pratap Singh filed a plea on the eve of the Teacher’s Day. The plea requests the CJI of India B.R. Gavai for taking a Suo motu action against the “Systematic Exploitation of Teachers” which is mentioned in the plea. The plea not only highlighted the urgency of acting against the exploitation of teachers but to safeguard the teachers who are responsible for the future of the country and also highlighted the grim realities faced by educators today in the private education sector.

Alleged exploitation in private institutions

1. Pay and Benefit Denied

The Plea highlighted that there are many private education institutions   which are not following the rules which are made by the government for the minimum pay, annual increments, provident fund, health insurance etc facilities are ignored or denied to the teachers of private education institutions.

2. Collapse of Governing Bodies and Accountabilities

The plea to CJI Gavai highlighted the need to establish governing bodies to ensure transparency and accountability. And also mentioned about the present governing body and added that these bodies are non- existent or inefficient and real control is in the hand of private trust and societies

3. Academic Malpractice

The plea also describes the condition of higher education as disturbing. The plea points to rampant misuse of public funds meant for scholarships and ghost enrolment and the malpractice in the examination and that led to the generation of degree holders but without the skill to acquire a good job and skills.

  • Strict examination reform and accountability reports
  • Mandatory pay scales with penalty on violation
  • Reinsted inspection and scholarship audits
  • Criminal liability for breach of education norms
