Why in the news?
In response to a recent notification from the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, the Rohini Court Bar Association (RCBA) has released a circular calling on all district court advocates in Delhi to participate in a mass demonstration. The RCBA has characterized the notification, dated August 13, 2025, as irrational and arbitrary, significantly impairing citizens’ ability to access justice.
What are the highlights of the circular?
According to the circular, on August 27, 2025, the Coordination Committee of all Delhi District Court Bar Associations met. It was decided unanimously at this meeting that all district bar associations should continue to protest the notification by refusing to work on August 28, 2025.Legal professionals are deeply concerned about the notification, which forbids Public Prosecutors, Police Officials (including Nayab Courts), Mediators, and LADC from appearing in court.
All the members of the Delhi Bar Association were requested to assemble near the National Flag, Central Hall of the Rohini District Courts at 11:00 AM. It was decided that from that place, they decided to carry out a demonstration on the roads outside the Rohini Court Complex, with the aim to raise public awareness about the serious and dire consequences of this notification. The advocates of the Rohini Court Bar Association and Delhi/NCR have also been requested to assemble before Central Hall at the Tis Hazari Court at 11:30 AM sharp on the date of 29th August 2025. Furthermore, it was also decided that from this point onward participants will proceed to the Lieutenant Governor’s House to express their collective grievance.
The Hon’ble Principal District & Sessions Judges of North and North-West Delhi have also been humbly requested by the Rohini Court Bar Association to extend their cooperation and ensure that no adverse judicial orders are passed against participating advocates during the course of this collective protest.
Conclusion
Delhi advocates, led by the Rohini Bar Court Association, protested against the Lieutenant Governor’s order banning the prosecutors and police from the court while claiming it to be unjust and arbitrary.
